This policy explains how MAXISHERE PTY LTD ("we", "us") handles personal information in Mafia Narrator: the website mafianarrator.site, the web app and the iPhone and Android apps. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
1. Contact us
MAXISHERE PTY LTD (ABN 82 697 253 400), Holland Street, North Epping NSW 2121, Australia
Email: [email protected]
2. What we collect
- Account: email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash), date of birth (to confirm you are 18 or older), display name, profile photo, language, and the city and country worked out from your internet connection (used for your city chat room, and to show you the Bulletin posts for your country).
- Security: your two-step login secret and recovery codes, the devices and browsers you sign in from, IP addresses, and a log of account activity (sign-ins, changes, payments).
- Payments: payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. We keep your Stripe customer and subscription references, your plan, payment dates and amounts. If you sell gathering tickets, Stripe collects your identity and bank details for your own Stripe account; we keep only its reference and whether it can take payments.
- Crew plan: if you buy the Crew plan, the emails you choose; each person is emailed that you added them. If someone adds your email to their Crew, they see only that email, never anything else in your account.
- Gifts and referrals: if you gift a Member plan, the recipient's email and your optional message, which we email to them. If someone signs up with your referral link, we note that you referred them; you see only how many signed up and paid, never who.
- Games: the games you run (scenario, roles, events and results) and "My players": the names, and optionally email, phone, address and photo, of the people you play with. While a game is running, if a narrator added your email to one of their players, we keep your role in that game so your phone can show it to you, and the night choices you send so the narrator can see them; they are deleted when the game ends. If you leave the app (or the browser window) during a game, we record when and for how long, never what you opened, and show it only to that game's narrator.
- Community: chat messages and reports, Bulletin posts, comments, likes and gathering bookings, invitations, and messages you send to support.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, a device token so we can send notifications to your phone or browser.
- Music: songs you add from your phone stay on your device. If you use Apple Music, Apple handles your Apple Music account; we only store the song titles and Apple's song identifiers you choose.
3. Information about other people
When you add players to "My players", you give us their personal information. Only add people who have agreed to it. If you add a player's email address and that email belongs to a Mafia Narrator member, they receive a summary of each game they play with you; every summary email has a link to stop them.
4. How we use it
To provide the service (accounts, games, sync between your devices, chat, the Bulletin, bookings, notifications, Bulletin emails to members and game summaries); to take payments and send receipts; to keep accounts secure and prevent misuse; to moderate the chat and the Bulletin; to answer support requests; to send you service messages (for example about your plan, rewards or an account about to be deleted); and to meet our legal obligations. We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
5. Who can see it
- Other users: your display name and photo appear with your chat messages and Bulletin comments. The organiser of a gathering you book (and our admins) can see your name, or your email if you have no display name. If you buy a ticket for a gathering, its host is emailed your email address.
- Narrators who know your email: if you are a member and a narrator enters your email address for a player in "My players", they are offered your display name and profile photo to use for that player. Nothing else is shared: never your phone, address, date of birth or anything else in your account. If you join a narrator's game with their code, you go onto their players list with your display name, photo and email.
- Our service providers: Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (website delivery and security), our web host and email service, Apple and Google (notifications and app stores), Apple (Apple Music, if you use it) and Google Fonts (the website's fonts, which receive your IP address when a page loads). They may only use the information to provide their service to us.
- Our team: admins can see account details to run the service and answer support requests. Chat history is archived to our records each week and then removed from the chat rooms.
- When the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
6. Overseas
Some providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States, the European Union and other countries where Stripe, Cloudflare, Apple and Google operate. We use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to the Australian Privacy Principles.
7. Security
Connections are encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, two-step login is required for every account, sign-in attempts are rate limited, and staff access is limited to admins. No system is perfectly secure; if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and, where required, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time (Account → Delete my account): everything in it is deleted straight away. If your plan or trial ends and the account is not used for 60 days, we email you a warning; after 90 days (and at least 30 days after the warning) the account is deleted. We keep payment and tax records for as long as Australian tax law requires, and a short note in our activity log that an account was deleted.
9. Access, correction and your choices
You can see and change your details in the app or on the website, download your data (Account → Download my data), turn notifications and Bulletin emails off (the bell in the Bulletin, or the link in any Bulletin email), and delete your account. To ask for access or a correction, or with any other privacy question, contact us at the details above; we will respond within 30 days.
10. Cookies
We use only the cookies needed for the service: one that keeps you signed in and one that remembers your language. Cloudflare may set a cookie to protect the website from attacks. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
11. Age
Mafia Narrator is for people aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn an account belongs to a minor, we delete it.
12. Automated decisions
We do not use computer programs to make decisions that significantly affect you. Automatic steps, such as the reminder and deletion of unused accounts and invite rewards, follow the fixed rules described here and in our Terms.
13. Complaints
Please contact us first and we will try to resolve your concern within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner: oaic.gov.au, 1300 363 992.
14. Changes
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with its date, and tell you by email or in the app before significant changes take effect.
